The FazAmnesty mobile surrender van visited the West Midlands this week as part of a national arrangement to allow people to get rid of their knives and offensive weapons safely and anonymously.
The Home Office initiative is supported locally by the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership (WM VRP) and West Midlands Police to co-ordinate activity across the region to help remove dangerous weapons from communities and reduce the risk of serious violence.
The van visited Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley and Walsall over 4th and 5th August 2026.
The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster said: “I am pleased to be supporting this national weapon surrender campaign. Every weapon removed from our streets is one less that could be used to cause devastating harm.
“This surrender campaign offers people a simple, safe and anonymous opportunity to dispose of weapons responsibly, helping to prevent future violence and protect our communities.
“Alongside the relentless work taking place every day to prevent and tackle serious violence, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to do the right thing.
“I would encourage anyone who has a weapon to make use of the surrender vans or one of the permanent surrender bins located across the West Midlands.
“I am doubling the number of weapon surrender bins across the West Midlands – so that we can remove more dangerous weapons from the streets – and continue to prevent and tackle knife crime, keep people safe and save lives.”
Policing and Crime Minister Sarah Jones said:
“Every dangerous weapon that has been surrendered so far is a weapon off our streets and a community made that little bit safer
“That’s why we’re going further and making it easier for more people in more places to do the right thing and hand over their knives.
“Knife crime is down by 11 per cent since the General Election but we will not stop until we meet our commitment of halving knife crime in a decade.”
The surrender van complements the network of permanent weapon surrender bins already located across the West Midlands, providing year-round opportunities for people to safely dispose of weapons.
The network of bins across the region are funded by the region’s Police and Crime Commissioner, and includes three funded by the Home Office – two in Wolverhampton and one in Coventry.

The WM VRP work closely with each local violence reduction board to identify and agree new weapon surrender bin locations.
