Young people in Solihull are being offered a summer packed with free activities, mentoring and new opportunities as a youth programme launches in Mell Square.
Running throughout the school holidays, the programme will transform Mell Square into a vibrant youth hub, offering football, fitness sessions, gaming, crafts, DJ workshops and beauty sessions.
The programme has been designed to give young people a safe place to spend time over the summer, build confidence, develop new skills and connect with positive role models, helping to reduce the risk of young people becoming involved in crime and serious violence.
The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster said:
“Young people deserve the chance to enjoy their summer in a safe, positive environment where they can make friends, learn new skills and feel supported.
“We know that investing in young people isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent violence before it happens.
“This fantastic programme brings together local organisations that are making a real difference, giving young people opportunities to discover new interests, build confidence and create brighter futures.
“I would encourage families across Solihull to take advantage of everything on offer this summer.”
The programme is being co-ordinated by Solihull Council and funded by the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership.
Councillor Karen Grinsell, Leader of Solihull Council, said: “We know that there are concerns about antisocial behaviour in Solihull town centre and we are working closely with partners to solve the problem.
“By providing a safe and welcoming space, we hope to encourage young people to try something new and develop new skills.
“Early intervention and meaningful engagement are key to addressing the root causes of antisocial behaviour, so we are delighted to be working with these fantastic organisations.”
The initiative brings together a range of local organisations, including Solihull Moors Foundation, Strike9T CIC, Ordinary Magic, Gala Roots, Robocode and the British Army, to provide engaging activities that promote wellbeing, resilience and aspiration.
The summer programme will run throughout the school holidays at Mell Square, with activities taking place up till 27th August. All sessions are free to attend.
