Evidence and evaluation lie at the heart of the VRP’s approach.

However, preventing and reducing violence is complex. A wide range of factors can influence whether even the best thought out efforts are successful and sometimes initiatives that seem like a good idea can turn out to be harmful. It is important we understand how to work most effectively. To do that we must seek out examples of where interventions have worked in similar circumstances elsewhere.

As well as using what works from others we must also monitor the difference that our projects are making and evaluate our own work so everyone can learn from it. By focusing on evaluation we hope to make it easier for successful interventions to be adopted by other organisations and to be scaled up across the region.

It is this continuous search for the best approach that will lead to success.
